Retail Bags & Labels
Our bags are certified by TUV AUSTRIA CERT GMBH to comply with standard EN 13432 for compostability.
Because of the compostability standard for these bags, homecomposting could take as much as 6 months to achieve 90% degradation.
When referring to “home” or “backyard” composting, a cooler aerobic breakdown of organic material or waste is meant, usually in small-scale composters and by ‘slow-stack’ treatment methods. Temperatures are generally lower. Cutting the bags into strips can help speed things up.
One can also produce compost at a higher rate by more frequently stirring the contents and moving the material through a series of containers.
Our labels are Hemp Post Consumer Waste with a Natural Kraft Liner.
One additional challenge – Waterloo Region does not have the infrastructure to take these types of materials in your green bin.
If all of this is too much for you, please just bring the bags back to us. We will bale them, and submit them to an Industrial Composter, keeping them out of the landfill.
