Giant’s Tomb Day Trip

Friday we sailed from Beausoleil to Giant’s Tomb, to spend some time swimming off the beach and looking at cool pebbles. Because we were just on a lunch hook we anchored in close on the “power boat beach” to see what the popular spot was like.

It reminded us of Chief’s Island in Couchiching or Pottahawk in Erie. Stern in beer drinking, pee where you stand type beach. We hung out upwind (and up current).

The sail was pretty sublime, and though were close hauled the wind shifted around the point so that we only needed one tack between the Southern tip of Beasoleil and the beaches at Giant’s Tomb.

More Chimney Bay

Marine forecasts were accurate, with a strong wind warning in effect through last night. We hunkered down after our adventurous outing to the Delawana, and with a little extra scope out we got through the night without budging.

Discussions on the beach today indicate Chimney Bay deserves its reputation for good holding ground, as it appears no boats moved, though gusts went beyond 30 knots.

We were rewarded with staying put by having a sheltered sunny beach today. Snorkeling and swimming – check. Clean hair – check. Berry picking for tomorrow’s pancakes – check.

Winds fall off through tonight, and so I hope we can get a good sail in tomorrow before heading home. Inlaws arrive Saturday for a pleasure cruise, so Friday night should be re-supply time at Hindson’s.

This map shows the anchorage, and how far we reversed for the high winds from the North West. It also shows the Little Dog channel that we used to get over to Honey Harbour (for ice and groceries – and Archie comics)

Chimney Bay

Our morning in Lost Bay started with rain, so we read books, played cards, and generally behaved like a cottage rainy day was being had.

When the rain let up a bit we decided to lift anchor – Lost Bay had us in 7 feet with only a few weeds, so the process was easy-peasy.

We motor-sailed South (owing to the prevailing winds) and managed a slight heel approaching 7 knots at times. Our alternator may need attention, as volatge was still a bit low on arrival at Chimney Bay.
The fridge is still working though, and weather permitting we’ll run to Honey Harbour for ice (and beer) tomorrow. If it’s nice we may try for dinner at the Delawana.

But tonight saw us arrive in sunshine, and the tube was inflated, the bay was toured in circles of wake jumping, and some J Lohr Cab Sauv went pretty well with some sirloin and baked potatoes.

The sky remains clear as it cools, so happiness comes easily.
